STILL IMAGINEのアートブック
STILL IMAGINE (2022)

This book is onnacodomo's first collection of masterpieces, a compilation of excerpts and reconstructions of collage and video works released since 2018. It was published in 2022 by TANG DENG, an independent art book label based in Tokyo. "The reason why the anachronistic analog feel is cutting edge" - Hiroshi Fujiwara

Neighborsのアートブック
Neighbors (2023)

In this world of conflict, division, and war, knowing, taking an interest in, and respecting our neighbors leads to a happier future. This book is filled with the idea that knowing, taking an interest in, and respecting our neighbors will lead to a happier future. The collage portraits are accompanied by an introduction, and while some are as they appear, others reveal a hidden inner side. Once you get to know your strange neighbors, they will begin to seem lovable. It is printed using six-color lithograph printing. You can feel the small expressions revealed by the lithograph printing hidden in each book.

Another Worldのアートブック
Another World (2024)

A city changing through redevelopment, trees being cut down, an unending war. We photographed such scenes from the year 2024 with our own cameras, printed the photographs, and created a book of collages. This was our first attempt at overlaying actual scenery with a collage. Along with the accumulated history, knowledge, and ghosts! A resting place that sometimes appears when you close your eyes, a world made from a wonderful imagination, another world.

GOLDEN BUTTER BOOKS

Profile

GOLDEN BUTTER BOOKS is an indie publishing label in Kyoto, run by artists Akinori Shimodaira and Reiko Tada.

Akinori Shimodaira is a graphic artist who loves bold colors and patterns. He’s designed plenty of book covers and ad visuals and has shown his work in countless solo and group exhibitions around Japan. Lately he’s even been publishing journal articles on how color links to emotion. Under the GOLDEN BUTTER BOOKS label, he’s put out risograph books like VARIATIONS and 3chords, plus hand-bound titles such as Tanishi & Me and PINPONG.

Reiko Tada is a graphic and comics artist known for her quirky characters. Alongside shows in Japan, her pieces have popped up in Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and beyond. Her GOLDEN BUTTER BOOKS releases include the comic series Tiny Avocado Diary vols. 1–9, Tekitō Kantantan vols. 1–3, and playful hand-made books like CASABLANKA. She’s also the author of Tadaima Okaerinasai (Village Books), YaoYao Diary (So-ei Sha), and Undaraca Udasupon (NHK Publishing).

In real life, the two are a married couple and together they run “Da-Sara,” an up-cycling project where they rescue thrift-shop plates and repaint them with ceramic colors. They collected the project in the 2021 book Da-Sara Anniversary and released an expanded English edition through GOLDEN BUTTER BOOKS in 2025.

VARIATIONSのアートブック
VARIATIONS (2025 edition)

The visual imagery at the very start of this book carries a faint echo of the previous page as you turn each sheet, subtly transforming and flowing into what comes next. It’s as if culture and language themselves, over time, reshape and connect to countless worlds. Without using a single word, this book weaves its narrative purely through color and form—like a picture book without language. Originally released in 2019, this work has been renewed as the 2025 edition, rendered vividly using only three colors in risograph printing.

CASABLANKA
CASABLANKA (revised virsion)

DASARA Anniversary
DASARA Anniversary (2025)

Shimodaira and Tada are a married artist duo who run a collaborative upcycling project called "DASARA."In this project, they hand-paint old ceramic plates—sourced from secondhand shops—with ceramic paint, turning outdated tableware into one-of-a-kind art pieces. The name “DASARA” is a playful combination of dasai (a Japanese word meaning “out of date” or “uncool”) and sara (“plate”).Started in 2020, DASARA quickly gained attention across Japan. The duo holds exhibitions four times a year in various locations. Since all pieces are sold on-site, they rarely keep any of the works themselves. Instead, wherever they exhibit, they visit local thrift stores to find new “DASARA seeds,” continuing a cycle of discovery and creation—an ongoing artistic movement. In 2021, they published a book titled DASARA Kinenbi (“DASARA Anniversary”), which documented past works that have since gone on to live new lives on people’s dining tables. In 2025, an expanded English edition was published by GOLDEN BUTTER BOOKS.
